Utah Horseman James "Jim" Dale Nebeker Passes Away
ROOSEVELT, UT–MAY 2, 2022–Funeral services were held Wednesday (Apr. 27) for James Dale “Jim” Nebeker, age 81, of Roosevelt, Utah. He passed away April 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
He was born June 6, 1940, in Vernal, to Stanley and Mabel Mary Johnson Nebeker. He married Loya Jeanne Lemon on January 20, 1962, in Roosevelt.
Jim owned and operated JN Trucking since 1987 and was still active on the job until his illness. His greatest passion was his family – especially his grandkids– who were the love of his life.
He enjoyed horse racing, rodeo, farming, hunting, and in his younger days, prospecting. He was a major tease and fun to be around! He liked people and had many life-long friends. He would do anything for anyone and helped many people – usually anonymously.
In his own name, Jim raced 94 Quarter horse winners with earnings of over $960,000. His top horses included restricted Grade 2 Zia Derby winner Jess Ought To Flash, Utah Bred Futurity winner No Hesitation, graded stakes-placed Eye My Stocks to name only a few.
Two of Jim's horses won stakes races on Saturday (Apr. 29) at Weber Downs in Ogden. His 2-year-old, All Tyme High, won the Hadley-Giles Futurity and Tynacoius won the Nevada Racing Circuit Non-Winners of Two.
Jim was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is very loved and will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Loya; children, Ron (Cathryn) Nebeker; Wendy (John) Hyder, all of Roosevelt; Chris (Lori) Nebeker, Cedarview; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren with one on the way; a brother, Clark (Sue) Nebeker, of Vashon, Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Lynn Nebeker; a son, John Nebeker; parents; and brothers Claude & Lynn Nebeker.
Burial was in the Roosevelt Memorial Park cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, the Nebeker family asked friends to please consider a donation to the Duchesne County Children’s Justice Center.
