Fastest qualifier BP Cartels Policy proved he was the real deal by winning the $109,193 Iowa Double Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Aug. 30.

Ridden by Stormy Smith for owner John Lawless of Ankeny, Iowa, and trainer Brent Clay, BP Cartels Policy went 350 yards in :17.294 while recording a career-best 104 speed index and defeating 3rd-fastest qualifier and 2-1 favorite Specials Jamie by 1-length.

A $10,000 purchase by Lawless at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, BP Cartels Policy has won three of four starts and has banked $52,350. He was coming off of a 1 1/4-length victory in the fourth of five trials on Aug. 16.

BP Cartels Policy was bred by Bill Price, a resident of Thackerville, Oklahoma, and a longtime breeder whose homebreds include 2002 Champion 3-year-old gelding A Real Man.

BP Cartels Policy is one of five winners from six starters foaled by Marys Southernpolicy, a homebred winning 8-year-old mare who was a finalist in three graded futurities in 2008, including the $423,400 Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity-RG1 at Fair Meadows at Tulsa.

Runner-up Specials Jamie (Ivory James-Special Anywhere) is a stakes-winning homebred filly racing for A.C. Taylor. Cesar Gomez rode for trainer Kasey Willis. The Big Time (Bigtime Favorite-Bosanova Baby) ran 3rd for owner Irene Velasquez. The homebred gelding was ridden by David Brown for trainer Verle Bohner.

CR Wagon Man (PYC Paint Your Wagon-LW Evening Lajolla) finished fourth and was followed by Dashing Tee (Volcom-Dashing Dion), Painted Summer (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Summertime Runaway), Rpainted Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Rlittle Sis), Classy In Red (Red Storm Cat-LK Classy Perk), Pymp Your Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Yawls Spreadn Rumors) & MGA Painted Time (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Time For Wilena).

Heza Fast Invictus simply overpowered eight rivals in the $105,250 Iowa Double Gold Futurity-RG3 Aug. 31 at Prairie Meadows to remain undefeated through 3 starts.

Sent off as the 9-5 favorite, fastest qualifier Heza Fast Invictus broke in 4th position under Agustin Silva. With pacesetter Best Efforts racing to his inside and lugging in through the lane, Heza Fast Invictus had clear sailing once he lengthened stride.

When given his cue, Heza Fast Invictus barreled through a large opening between runners and pulled clear. With Silva all but wrapping up on his mount approaching the wire, Heza Fast Invictus defeated Best On The Planet and jockey Tony Guymon by 1 1/4-lengths in new stakes record time of :17.465 for the 350-yards. The winner, owned by Marty & Shalia Powers and saddled by Kasey Willis, earned a speed index of 98 for his winning effort.

Heza Fast Invictus broke his maiden at Canterbury Downs back in July and then closed strongly to prevail by a neck in his Iowa Double Gold Futurity trial at Prairie Meadows on Aug. 17.

Bred in Oklahoma by John Paul & Lois A. Gee, Heza Fast Invictus is the first stakes winner out of winner Sheza Fast Jewel. Bred by Michael Wilson of Payson, Arizona, Sheza Fast Jewel has 5 winners from 6 starters.

Finishing 2nd was Best On The Planet (Best Advice-Planetary Ferry-TB) for Gene Cox & trainer Gina Downing. Secretive Jess (No Secrets Here-My Girl Jessie) was 3rd under Jorge Torres for Donald Friesen & trainer Stacy Charette-Hill. Followed by JA Long Gone Gol (Gol-JA Impetuously), Smokealittlesmoke (Royal Shake Em-Streaking Out), Royal Rhythm (Royal Blue Chew Chew-Supersonic Rhythm), Uhyusti (Royal Shake Em-Asanti), Best Efforts (Best Advice-Missie Mustard) & Ivory Kilobyte (Ivory James-Pernilla Ease). Capital Eye scratched.
