Dos Jakes (Dos Poruno - Bug Lover QH, Blushing Bug)
July 6, 2013 – Fair Meadows – by Tracy Gantz
A two-time Champion Paint Horse, Dos Jakes competes most often against Paints and Appaloosas. However, being double registered, he has also won against Quarter Horses. His most recent victory came as a Paint when he won the July 6 Lewis Wartchow Memorial Paint & Appaloosa Stakes at Fair Meadows.
Sent away at better than 20-1, Dos Jakes broke on top, virtually even with KJ Cash. With Benito Baca in the irons, Dos Jakes ultimately put that rival away, and he successfully held off the closers. He led at every call and won by 1/2-length in :17.508 for the 350-yards.
Dos Jakes first placed in stakes as a 2-year-old, when second in the Western States Futurity-G2. The colt ran second in the following year’s Olympia Joe Handicap-G1 and was named the Paint Champion Running Three-Year-Old Colt. In 2012, he captured the Harvest Cup Maturity-G2 and earned the title of Paint Champion Running Aged Stallion.
Nancy Roberts owns Dos Jakes, who was bred in Arkansas by Milford G. Roberts Jr. A son of the double-registered stallion Dos Poruno, he is out of the stakes winning Quarter Horse mare Bug Lover, who has produced two winners from three starters.
Super Glide Harley APHA (Awesome Chrome-Biker Chick) finished 2nd with Berkley Packer aboard. Dee Keener trains the 3-year-old gelding for the Paint Horse Queens. Bryan Ernst piloted Power Possum APHA (Little Jungle Jet-Streakin Possum) to 3rd for trainer Joseph Duncan & owner Manuel Martinez.
Followed by KJ Cash ApHC (Takin The Cash-Geena Fox), Judys Miss Banks APHA (Gold Medal Jess-Judys Chicklet), Ubuyillfly APHA (Country Quick Dash-Strafing Run), Lajollas Mr Big Stuff APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-McM Evelyn Lajolla), Flash Of Silk APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Judys Silk), Imachickenkicker APHA (Dos Poruno-Game Chicken) & Western Rocker APHA (Country Quick Dash-Western Lineage).
